Job Summary: The Medical Assistant-Registered provides support and assistance to the assigned medical provider and clients to ensure timely and targeted comprehensive care interventions and coordination. This role ensures client health data is accurately tracked in the medical record.
                                 
General Summary of Duties: 
  • Obtain and record vital signs, complete lab orders, CLIA waived lab tests, and track lab results as requested by a psychiatric medical provider.
  • Submit and monitor the status of necessary prior authorizations and assist with medication refills.
  • Utilize KMHS approved external resources to obtain progress notes and diagnoses, view laboratory results, enter data into National registries, verify insurance coverage information and, upon request, monitor prescriptions for controlled substances in the state database.
  • At the medical provider's request, communicate key client health needs to the care team members for comprehensive care coordination and treatment planning.
  • Assist with gathering and tracking health information and accurately entering data into the electronic medical record.
  • Assist the medical provider with timely communication with primary and specialty medical care providers, acute care hospitals, inpatient psychiatric treatment facilities, and emergency departments. Establish effective linkages with community health partners and the various levels of care available at KMHS to coordinate client needs.
  • Assume responsibility for all scheduling needs for the assigned medical provider.
  • Provide information and education to clients to support their understanding of health and self-management capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications: 
EDUCATION:High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:Entry level (no prior related work experience)
LICENSURE: Must complete application for Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) credential with the Washington State Department of Health within 7 days of hire. RAAC (Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor) certification with WA State required within 60 days of hire.   
  
Preferred Qualifications: 
EDUCATION:Completion of healthcare training program.
EXPERIENCE:Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience) as a MA-R or NAC.
Experience with EMR and data tracking and ability to read data reports.
 
Performance Requirements: 
KNOWLEDGE: 
  • Maintain basic knowledge of health-related practices and make recommendations regarding process and content improvements.
  • Familiarity with outpatient medical clinic operations to facilitate the establishment of positive and productive relationships with medical practice staff throughout the community.
 
SKILLS: 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Experience with venipuncture and intramuscular injections.
  • Strong organizational skills are required to prioritize a variety of work assignments. 
  • Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office environments.
 
ABILITIES: 
  • Ability to work within interdisciplinary teams on behalf of complex clients with extensive behavioral care needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member. 
  • The ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently 
Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc. Medical equipment used: EKG machine, centrifuge, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, thermometer and scale.
 
Work Environment: Outpatient clinical setting, inpatient units.
 
Mental/Physical Requirements: While performing the job duties, the employee must walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with arms, talk, or listen.  Requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.  This position also requires close vision and peripheral vision. Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods.
